WWithout a doubt, the Golden Boot award is one of the most prestigious individual awards a footballer can win, and winning it means he becomes Europe’s top scorer for the season. The first person to make history for this award was the legendary striker Eusebio, who scored 42 goals for Benfica in the 66-67 season.

Since that first award, dozens of football players have taken to the stage to receive the Golden Boot. Last year, Harry Kane won the award. The English striker and his 36 goals have surpassed the likes of Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland. However, this year he has not been able to reach the level of Real Madrid’s French star, who won the new season with 31 goals.

The Argentine star is the player who has won the award the most times, having been recognized as the winner of the Golden Boot award six times so far. He is followed by Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won four awards, but so far no player has matched him. Mbappe has started his journey to catch up with Messi, but is still far behind him at the moment

Mbappé has come close to winning the Golden Boot several times since his professional debut. In the 2018-19 season, he finished second with 33 goals, six fewer than Leo Messi, who won the trophy in his final season with Barcelona. He scored 28 goals in the 2021-22 season, ranking second behind Robert Lewandowski, who is still a member of Bayern Munich. A year later, he again finished third (27 goals) in a tournament that was also won by fellow Bayern player Harry Kane.
