Kylian Mbappé received the prestigious Golden Boot trophy from MARCA, representing Spain’s ESM, recognizing him as the best scorer of the Europa League for the 2024-25 season.
Although it wasn’t a good season overall, on an individual level the Frenchman had a great end to the season and rose to the ranks of Europe’s top scorers, eventually scoring 31 goals in La Liga, surpassing Victor Goqueres and Mohamed Salat as the top scorers in the Europa League. To achieve this, the Frenchman took 2,915 minutes over 34 games.
This feat makes the Real Madrid striker the successor of Harry Kane, who won the award in 2023-24, and Haaland, who won it in 2022-23. At the same time, he succeeded Real Madrid’s last winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the Golden Boot in the white shirt in 2014-15, 2013-14 (shared with Luis Suárez) and 2010-11.
How does the Golden Boot Factor work?
Many wonder why Victor Jiqueres, who scored 39 goals for Sporting CP, did not receive the award, compared to Kylian Mbappé’s 31. This is because the ranking method for this award does not necessarily evaluate the player who has scored the most goals, but rather the player who has accumulated the most points according to the coefficient of each league. Goals in Europe’s top five leagues (Spain, England, Germany, Italy and France) are doubled. In low coefficient leagues such as Portugal, goals are multiplied by 1.5. Therefore, the Swedish striker has scored 39 goals and multiplied by 1.5 gives him 58.5 points. Kylian Mbappé scored 31 goals and scored 62 points, enough to win the trophy.
