Trinity Rodman outplayed U.S. Women’s National Team teammate Lindsey Heaps on Sunday night to assist on Sofia Cantore’s goal in the Washington Spirit’s 1-0 win over the visiting Denver Summits.

In other National Women’s Soccer League games of the day, Racing Louisville defeated Angel City 2-1. The Seattle Reign then shut out the San Diego Wave 2-0.

Cantore’s 61st-minute goal hit the underside of the crossbar, helping the Spirit overcome the loss of four players who featured in the Women’s African Cup of Nations.

This was the second meeting between Spirit (10-3-3) and Expansion Summit (5-6-4). The first meeting between the two teams in March, Denver’s home opener, drew more than 63,000 fans, setting an NWSL single-game attendance record, but ended in a scoreless draw.

Rodman, who has contributed 12 goals in the past 11 games, was heavily marked. Ayo Oke and Eva Gaetino received yellow cards for tackles on Rodman.

Heaps, making his second appearance for Denver, almost contributed to Summit’s tying goal late in the second half when a collision with the Spirit’s Tara Ladd and Rebecca Bernal appeared to earn a penalty. However, this decision was reversed after a video review.

Lardner’s two goals give Racing Louisville the lead.

Maja Lardner scored her first NWSL goal and also had a header in the second half to lead Racing Louisville (3-10-3) to a 2-1 road win over Angel City.

The Rookies took the lead in the 24th minute after midfielder Katie O’Kane’s long-range shot was deflected in Angel City’s penalty area. Lardner touched a loose ball that went past goalie Angelina Anderson.

In the 55th minute, Fisher sent a lofted ball to Lardner, who headed it past Anderson.

Angel City (7-7-1) scored in the 80th minute when defender Sofia Mathis sent a long ball up front for Svejndis Jónsdóttir.

Reign past Mercado, Bagrift, and Wave.

San Diego natives Maddie Mercado and Jordyn Bugg scored in front of their hometown crowd, giving the Seattle Reign (6-7-2) a 2-0 victory over the Wave.

Mercado took the lead in the 17th minute, sneaking behind the Wave’s last line and heading in Ainsley McCammon’s cross for his third goal in three games.

Three minutes later, Sally Menty’s corner kick hit McCammon in the head and bugged him, resulting in Seattle’s second goal with a header.

San Diego (9-6-2) was in control for much of the second half but couldn’t break through.

Claudia Dickey kept the scoresheet with nine saves. Seattle coach Laura Harvey became the first coach in NWSL history to win 100 games with the same club.
