MANCHESTER, England (AP) — manchester city forward phil foden has signed a four-year contract extension with the Premier League club until 2030.
Academy graduate Foden won 17 major trophies with City, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
“Playing for this club is everything I’ve ever wanted to do and it’s always an honor to wear this shirt,” Foden said. “We never forget that we were lucky enough to be part of a historic era in which we won so many titles, but we always look to the future and strive to win more titles.”
City are beginning a new era after iconic manager Josep Guardiola left at the end of last season.
Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has been appointed manager, and an agreement has been reached for England international Elliott Anderson to join from Nottingham Forest. Reported £116 million ($155 million).
Foden, 26, is considered one of the best English players of his generation but was left out of England’s World Cup squad after a disappointing season.
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, said: “At 26 years old, his development is still continuing and we look forward to seeing what Phil develops into over the next few years.”
