BRUSSELS (AP) – Rudi Garcia will not continue as manager after failing to reach an agreement to extend his contract with the Belgian Football Federation.
The Royal Belgian Football Association announced on Monday that Garcia’s contract will not be renewed after the end of this month and that it is looking for a successor to the French coach who led Belgium to the World Cup quarter-finals. Lost to final champion Spain.
“There is no doubt that García has played an important role in the rebuilding of the Belgian Red Devils,” said Belgian sporting director Vincent Mannert. “He was appointed as national team coach in difficult circumstances, both sporting and financial. His dedication and experience in particular helped restore team cohesion and enabled us to achieve good results at the recent FIFA World Cup.”
Garcia is Appointed as Belgium national team coach in January 2025 As the successor to the fired Domenico Tedesco, who was unable to revive the team in his relatively short tenure. Garcia coached several big clubs during his well-traveled career, including Napoli, Marseille and Roma, but he never managed a national team.
He highlighted his achievements in his 18 months as Belgium national team coach, pointing to the team’s World Cup campaign and improvement in the standings since taking over.
“I wish Belgium continued success in its generational transition, which I am proud to have been a part of,” Garcia said.
