The winner of world cup He will lift the trophy, receive his first championship ring and achieve the glory of a lifetime, a defining moment in the history of this country’s sport. It also leads to high salaries.

The World Cup winner will earn $51 million. The second place prize is $34 million.

FIFA has increased payouts for the 2026 World Cup, setting a record with a total of $871 million being paid to the 48 participating teams. The total includes more than $100 million added in April after some European federations lobbied to defray the costs of the tri-country tournament, which required significant travel and accommodation costs.

$51 million either way Argentina or Spain Although this is a huge amount, it is still insignificant compared to the wealth spent on soccer around the world. This is less than the amount won by last year’s Club World Cup winner in a tournament also held in the United States.

By the way, the winner’s prize is less than $51 million. The transfer fee was paid on Tuesday. English club Brighton gifted Croatian Luka Vuskovic, a 19-year-old defender who spent most of the World Cup on the bench.

Here’s what you need to know about World Cup prize money.

All teams will be paid

FIFA pays money to its 48 national federations in two categories. One is a prize bonus based on each team’s progress in the tournament, and the other is a flat payment to cover training and preparation costs.

All 48 players to qualify for the World Cup will earn at least $12.5 million, including $10 million in qualifying and group stage prize money. Each will receive $2.5 million for pre-tournament training and expenses. The advance payment was agreed to avoid pre-tournament tensions at past World Cups, where it was common for players to claim they were not paid bonuses by their federations.

Prize money increases depending on the team’s ranking.

Higher amount will occur after request from federation

Some federations, especially those in Europe, have told FIFA that the prize money structure and preparation costs set last year meant they would lose money in the tournament unless their teams reached the knockout stages.

French federation president Philippe Diallo told sports daily L’Equipe that he had for months brought to the attention of FIFA president Gianni Infantino that World Cup teams were not being rewarded properly compared to what World Cup winners Chelsea were getting a year ago. The amount came to $115 million, even though FIFA had to promise a nine-figure fee to persuade Europe’s prestigious clubs to take part in the revamped competition.

World Cup teams playing in the United States also faced some tax obligations that are exempt in Canada and Mexico.

World Cup Champion wins big money

The eventual champion will be paid $51 million, but the Argentine federation will receive $42 million in prize money for winning the 2022 tournament in Qatar. The total prize pool for this 32-team version was $440 million.

Here’s what others are getting:

Runner-up: $34 million

3rd place (England): $30 million

4th place (France): $28 million

Quarterfinalists (5th to 8th): $20 million each

Round of 16 (9th to 16th): $16 million each

Round of 32 (17th to 32nd): $12 million each

Group Stage (33rd to 48th): $10 million each

Air tickets and hotels are covered

Under World Cup regulations, FIFA is already obligated to pay for round-trip business class flights for each federation to the tournament, as well as meals and lodging for the 50-member delegation, including the players, in addition to the amount due. Hotel payments begin five days before the team’s first game and one night after elimination.

FIFA will also cover domestic travel costs for up to 50 delegation members and the cost of “dedicated vehicles, including equipment trucks.”

The World Cup team’s soccer federation must pay for “adequate insurance, including, but not limited to, injury, accident, illness and travel” as well as “incidental hotel costs” and accommodation for additional delegation members.

world cup trophy

The biggest honor, of course, is the World Cup trophy.

This will give the champions a chance to celebrate after the final whistle blows during the awards ceremony on Sunday. Original trophies are not permanently awarded. Instead, the winner will receive a gold-plated replica that they can keep.

World Cup prize money is paid to the federation by FIFA, not the players. How the funds are handled depends on each federation’s rules.

Example: U.S. Soccer will keep 20% of the prize money. The remaining 80% received by the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team will be split evenly between the Men’s and Women’s National Teams after consultation. 2022 Milestone Agreement By stipulating that men’s and women’s teams be paid equally, America’s national governing body has become the first sports organization to commit to equal pay for men and women.
