LONDON (AP) — Morgan Rodgers could be the next England midfielder to move for more than $150 million.
Aston Villa have accepted an offer of 117 million pounds ($157.4 million) from Premier League rivals Chelsea for Rodgers, the British Press Association reported on Saturday.
That would be more than Manchester City’s fee Pay Nottingham Forest for Elliott Anderson It was a record amount for an English player.
Penn State and other British media have reported that Rodgers will undergo a medical in London on Monday before signing a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge upon his return from the World Cup.
Rodgers, 23, helped Villa to a top-four finish in the Premier League and win the Europa League last season.
It is the biggest signing of the summer for new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, but it also marks another important departure for Villa, who already sold Youri Tielemans to Manchester United this week.
Rodgers joined Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 in a deal worth up to £15m.
