ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Jerry Jones wasted no time in getting the stadium sign back. world cup It was completed at the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
The prominent owner of the NFL’s Cowboys had to turn over AT&T Stadium to FIFA for the tournament’s top nine games, which will be held under a giant video board and retractable roof. It was also renamed Dallas Stadium on Google Maps for a month.
None of the Cowboys’ major sponsors matched that of the World Cup’s governing body; Large letters and logos were covered. There is a small “AT&T Stadium” sign on the roof and above the giant sliding glass doors at each end of the stadium.
in less than 3 hours Spain defeated France 2-0 With Tuesday’s semifinal game and final game in Texas, the Cowboys sent out an email announcing a photo opportunity at 7 a.m. Wednesday. That’s when workers began removing the cover. The same email was sent again early Wednesday morning.
The work was expected to take several days, but the large stadium name on one side of the roof was fully exposed well before noon. Workers were also removing World Cup and FIFA banners that had been placed in temporary fencing around the stadium.
Jones pioneered a fundamental change in sponsorship in the NFL. When he bought the Cowboys in 1989, the NFL team shared nearly all of the sponsorship money.
Six years later, the NFL and Jones sued each other as Jones fought for the right to his own sponsorship deal. Jones famously appeared on the field before Monday night games after reaching a deal with Nike CEO Phil Knight back when Reebok was the NFL’s shoe sponsor.
There were many coverings inside AT&T Stadium during the World Cup, including signs for Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, and Ford.
