BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) – Former Romanian soccer player Gabriel Muresan has drowned in a lake near the town where he was mayor, local media reported Thursday. He was 44 years old.

The most successful period of Muresan’s career was with Cluj, where he won the Romanian league title in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Cluj also won the domestic cup three times during his six seasons with the club.
In the Champions League, Muresan appeared in three group stage matches, including matches against Chelsea, Manchester United and Roma.
