LONDON (AP) — Fulham appointed Alvaro Arbeloa as manager in an announcement Wednesday night, completing a coaching merry-go-round involving Real Madrid and Benfica.
Arbeloa left Madrid at the end of last season. Jose Mourinho Take over the Spanish giants. Mourinho joined after leaving Benfica; Marco Silva — moved there after five years at Fulham.
Arbeloa, 43, signed a three-year deal with Fulham after serving as caretaker manager at Madrid in the second half of last season following the departure of Xabi Alonso. Prior to that, he was a youth coach at Madrid and is also a former player.
“I’m really looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere at Craven Cottage with the Fulham fans and starting pre-season with the players next week,” said Arbeloa. “I am confident that we will enjoy a wonderful journey together.
Fulham chairman Shahid Khan said Arbeloa had “made an exceptional case to be the team’s next manager through our meeting in June”.
“Mr. Alvaro is, by his own admission, very ambitious,” the chairman said. “He has spent quality time learning about the best players, the club and the way the game is played, and that experience will be of great help here at Fulham.”
