NEW YORK, Switzerland (AP) – UEFA on Thursday banned Czech club midfielder Kalvina from next season’s European competition due to their involvement in a domestic match-fixing scandal.

czech cup winner Calvina had already been exiled. On June 16, he was expelled from the top division by the Czech Football Association.

The association’s ethics committee also fined Calvina 10 million Czech crowns (approximately $480,000) for offering bribes to two referees and two players to influence a league match and two relegation play-offs involving the club in 2024.

The club did not appeal.

By winning this cup, Calvina advances directly to the fourth qualifying round of next season’s Europa League. However, UEFA announced that another Czech club, FC Viktoria Plzen, would take his place.

If Plzen lose in the qualifying round, they will qualify for the third-tier Conference League instead.

in marchThe Czech Association announced that a total of 47 individuals and teams, including referees, officials, players, former players and clubs from the top four leagues, are under disciplinary investigation for their alleged involvement in the match-fixing scandal.
