LIVERPOOL, England (AP) – Liverpool have completed the signing of French defender Jeremy Jacquet from Ligue 1 side Rennes.
The Premier League club signed a transfer deal for the French Under-21 international earlier this year. The 20-year-old centre-back, who is currently nursing a shoulder injury, was signed for a reported fee of 70 million euros (approximately $80 million).
Liverpool have announced that the player will join them on a “long-term contract”.
Jacquet trained in Rennes’ youth system and made 33 first-team appearances for the Brittany side.
“A club like Liverpool, that’s a big dream for me,” said Jacquet.
He added that he is expected to make a full recovery by the start of preseason.
“I feel a lot better,” he said. “I was given permission to start a training program with the group (in Rennes), but it was a little late for me to join the team. But if I continue to work hard, I will be fully fit before the season.”
