Gilberto Mora continues to prove that he is one of the most breakout stars for the Mexican national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Since earning his place in the starting lineup, the young midfielder has become one of the most influential players in Javier Aguirre’s side.

Coach Aguirre started Mora in the last two games against Mexico, and the teenager responded with great performances. Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez have grabbed the headlines with their goals, but the products of Club Tijuana’s academy are dictating the play and helping to bring balance to El Tri.

Gilberto Mora is reportedly heading to the Premier League

Prior to establishing himself at the 2026 World Cup, Gilberto Mora was already attracting significant interest from Europe thanks to his breakthrough with Liga MX side Club Tijuana and impressive performances for Mexico at the 2025 Gold Cup and 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

In recent months, multiple reports have linked the Mexican prospect to European giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United. However, TNT Sports journalist Rodrigo Lara claimed that Mora’s move to the Premier League in 2027 is virtually certain, although he did not reveal which club won the title.

Lara said, “Six months from now, during the winter transfer window, Gilberto Mora will be leaving. He will be playing in the Premier League. I can’t say which club, but in six months, Gilberto Mora will be a Premier League player.”

Manchester United withdraw from race to sign Gilberto Mora

According to reports from England, the transfer destination is not Manchester United. The Premier League club have reportedly backed out of the race to sign the Mexican youngster, despite having watched his development over the past six months.

“Manchester United have withdrawn from the race to sign Mexican wonder Gilberto Mora. United have been monitoring Mora closely over the past six months. The club’s scouts have also tracked his development during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the midfielder helping Mexico reach the Round of 16.”

The teenager’s outstanding performances have also attracted interest from some of United’s biggest rivals, including Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Mirror reported on Wednesday: “United remain focused on finding the best young players in the world, but co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reluctant to pursue a bid for Mora.”

All that remains is that Gilberto Mora will turn 18 on October 14th. This is the minimum age required by FIFA regulations to complete a transfer from Mexico to European football. If he reaches that milestone, it will become clear which club has acquired one of Mexican soccer’s brightest prospects and one of the standout revelations of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
