RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — New animal fortune for world cup has arrived, but even if the prediction turns out to be wrong, few will challenge it.
A black jaguar named Poti has been selected for the Bioparque in Rio de Janeiro for Wednesday’s much-anticipated World Cup Group C match between Brazil and Scotland in Miami.
Residents and soccer fans watched closely on Monday as Poti took part in a light-hearted prediction event placed in front of two enrichment boxes representing two rivals.
After sniffing out both options, the Jaguars confidently selected the Brazil box. But although she briefly returned to investigate Scotland’s options, potty experts say this moment should not be ignored.
“Perhaps this indicates that it will be a tough match for us,” said Caio de Souza Silva, a biologist at Bioparque. “Maybe we can win, but it could also be a more complicated game. We hope we don’t concede any goals, but it could be a more physical game for Brazil.”
Brazil are level with Morocco on four points in Group C, but ahead on goal difference. Scotland have three points and could advance regardless of the result. Morocco’s rival is Haiti, but they have not yet added any points.
