Josep Guardiola had an emotional farewell on his final day as Manchester City manager. His last game was on May 24, in Round 38 of the Premier League, a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa, but the following day tens of thousands of fans took to the streets to pay tribute to the Spanish manager, who had been with him for 10 years.

Amidst the praise and applause during City’s trophy parade to celebrate the double FA Cup and Carabao Cup win, as well as the titles won by the women’s and U-18 teams, there was room for an unexpected burst of laughter thanks to an interesting question from Bernardo Silva to the coach.

Silva left Pep speechless.

Amid the title celebrations, the event was a farewell not only for Guardiola but also for Silva and John Stones, who will leave the team at the end of the 2025/26 season. And it was in the context of this breakup that laughter arose.

The unexpected star was Bernardo Silva, who asked a question that made everyone in attendance laugh and left the Spanish coach speechless.

“Everyone wants to know, who are you talking to here?” he asked after a video went viral of the coach, apparently alone, gesticulating wildly and shouting instructions from the bench during the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the 2019-2020 FA Cup semi-final.

Pep immediately burst into laughter at the unexpected question and covered his face with his hands. He couldn’t stop laughing and the coach was speechless, shaking his head to indicate he didn’t have an answer for the clip.

In reality, Pep was talking to an assistant who was sitting in the back seat. However, the camera angle that captured the moment made it look like he was talking to himself, sparking a flood of memes among fans.

Although that title slipped through his fingers, Guardiola won more trophies in 10 years during his tenure than the club had won in its previous 136-year history.

Under his guidance, City won the Premier League six times, the Champions League once, the FA Cup three times, the Carabao Cup five times, the Community Shields three times, the UEFA Super Cup once and the FIFA Club World Cup once, leaving an indelible mark on Manchester City’s history.

A night full of jokes, compliments and touching moments, reflecting the great atmosphere of one of Manchester City’s most successful eras in recent history, with Pep Guardiola once again taking center stage on and off the field.
