Arne Slott and Liverpool part ways

“The Slott story has come to an end. Liverpool have decided to part ways with Arne Slott as manager of the red side. This open secret, which has been rumored all season, was finally confirmed this Saturday.”

In this way, Liverpool will end their two-season relationship with Arne Slott, who was in charge of England and won Premier League champions. The former Feyenoord manager ended his spell in England with a record of 66 wins, 18 draws and 29 defeats.

Mohamed Salah shed tears during his last match against Liverpool

After a big summer in terms of transfer market bets, the Reds’ season ended in disappointment. The 481 million euros invested in star players such as Issac and Wirtz ultimately failed to produce any trophies. On the contrary, Liverpool ended the season a long way from winning a silver medal. They finished fifth in the Premier League, reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and Carabao Cup, and were eliminated in the first round of the FA Cup.

official statement

After joining the club in June 2024, Arne won his 20th league title in his first season in charge and finished the 2024-25 season as LMA Manager of the Year, leading the team to the Carabao Cup final and Champions League Round of 16.

He then oversaw the Reds’ qualification for the Champions League for the second consecutive season in 2025-26, when the Reds also reached the quarter-finals of the competition.

In a joint statement, Liverpool’s owners underlined their appreciation for the success Arne has brought to the club and the leadership he has shown during his two years in charge. “It is clear that this was a difficult decision for us as a club. The contribution that Arun has made to Liverpool FC during his time with us has been important, valuable and, most importantly, a success for our supporters and ourselves.”

“Therefore, our recognition of everything he has accomplished is immense, not least because it is based on his work ethic, diligence and level of experience which further strengthens our view that he is a leader in his field.”

From the first moment I met Arne, I could immediately see that he was someone who not only accepted responsibility, but accepted it with passion. That was evident when he took on the head coaching job, when he led us to the Premier League title and when he faced significant challenges and pressures throughout the just-ended season.

“At the same time, we have collectively come to the conclusion that changes are necessary for the club to continue moving forward. I would like to emphasize again that this is not a decision taken lightly, quite the contrary.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to put on record my gratitude to Mr. Arne, who will always have a special place in the history of this football club as the manager who led Liverpool to their 20th league title.

“That accomplishment is all the more remarkable because it was accomplished in his first season on the job, but it was built on outstanding coaching and leadership on a day-to-day basis.

“He also helped guide the club through one of the most difficult periods imaginable following the death of Diogo. The compassion and humanity he showed throughout that period says a lot about the person he was.”

Therefore, we can only wish Arne every success in the next phase of his coaching career and believe in his continued success. We do so knowing that his legacy at Liverpool remains intact and will gain even greater relevance in the years and decades to come.

However, the conclusion we reached is based on the belief that the best way to address the team’s trajectory is to change direction. This does not diminish the work Arn has done here or the respect we have for him. It’s also not a reflection on his talent. Rather, it points to the need for a different approach.

“Arn leaves grateful, with a Premier League title to his name, and confident that he and his family will always return to Anfield.”

Iraora, the most popular

A statement from the club said that following confirmation of the Dutch manager’s departure, “the process to appoint his successor is already underway”. Andoni Iraola has emerged as the clear candidate to take over the Anfield dugout, according to MARCA contributor Matteo Mollet. The Basque manager, who has been praised by several clubs (Bayer Leverkusen, AC Milan and Crystal Palace) in recent hours, has been linked with the red club ever since rumors of Arne Slott’s departure began to circulate. ‘
