MADRID (AP) — real madrid City rivals Atlético Madrid have announced that they have rejected a 150 million euro (approximately $173 million) offer for Argentine forward Julián Álvarez.
This offer was part of the following campaign pledge: Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, ahead of Sunday’s re-election.
The 15-time European champion said: “After considering and evaluating the offer, Club Atlético Madrid has rejected it, expressing its gratitude for the proposal made within the framework of the good relations between the two clubs and citing the player’s release clause.” Spanish media reported the cost was 500 million euros ($577 million).
Real Madrid failed to win any major trophies for the second season in a row.
