Diarra and FIFA have been in a legal dispute since his relationship with former club Lokomotiv Moscow broke down in 2014.
FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor of the Russian club, saying Diarra had terminated his contract without just cause. That means Diarra and any club that wants to sign him will have to pay 10.5 million euros (approximately $12.1 million).
Diarra challenged the global transfer market rules administered by FIFA in a lawsuit brought to the European Court of Justice. There, the judge said some FIFA rules breached EU competition law and the free movement of players.
