LONDON (AP) – Tottenham announced on Friday the signing of Liverpool defender Andy Robertson.
The Scotland left-back is out of contract and has joined Spurs as a free agent after nine years at Anfield.
“He has proven to be a winner at the highest level for a long time,” Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi said.
Robertson, 32, won a string of trophies with Liverpool, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League title. Tottenham have not disclosed the length of the contract.
Spurs sporting director Johan Lange said: “We are delighted to welcome Andy to the club.” “First and foremost, he is an outstanding left-back, one of the best players in the history of the Premier League and a player who will improve our team.
“Furthermore, his qualities, character and leadership have been evident throughout his career in which he has regularly competed for and won major honors.”
Robertson also won the FA Cup, two English League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup during his time at Liverpool. He will captain Scotland at this month’s World Cup.
“Andy is someone I have admired for many years and will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team,” said De Zerbi. “I can’t wait to start working with him and see the positive impact he has on those around him.”
