MILAN (AP) – The son of one of Inter Milan’s treble-winning heroes is returning to the Serie A club.
Inter announced on Friday that they have exercised their buy-back clause and signed Serbian midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic from Club Brugge on a five-year contract.
The 20-year-old is the son of former midfielder Dejan Stankovic, who spent almost a decade at Milan and was part of the team that won the Champions League, Serie A and the Italian Cup in 2010 under manager Jose Mourinho. Current Inter manager Cristian Chivu also played for the team.
Aleksandar Stanković developed through Inter’s youth ranks, but did not make any first-team appearances and was loaned to Swiss Super League side Lucerne in 2024.
He signed with Brugge on a long-term contract the following season, but Inter exercised their buy-back clause at the first opportunity.
Inter reportedly sold Stankovic to Bruges for 10 million euros ($11.6 million), with an option to take him back in 2026 for 23 million euros ($26.8 million), and an even higher price of 25 million euros ($29.1 million) if activated in June 2027.
Defensive midfielder Stankovic was an ever-present for Brugge last season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in all competitions and winning the Belgian league’s Young Player of the Year award.
He also played in eight games for the Serbian national team, scoring one goal.
