BOSTON (AP) — After more than 30 years, world cup I’m back in Boston.

At least, it’s nearby. The World Cup match will be held in the small town of Foxboro, about 30 miles south of “Beantown,” and for the first time since 1994, Italy’s national team, which beat Spain 2-1 in the quarterfinals, was played at the now-demolished Foxboro Stadium.

Boston/Foxboro also hosted Women’s World Cup games in 1999 and 2003, the latter at current Gillette Stadium, which opened in 2002 and is home to the NFL’s New England Patriots.

Gillette Stadium (renamed Boston Stadium for the World Cup, per FIFA regulations) is also a familiar venue for soccer’s biggest stars. Lionel Messi played here in the Copa America Centenario in 2016 and in MLS matches for Inter Miami in 2024 and 2025. Other notable stars include Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.

Landmarks/Attractions

Massachusetts was one of the original 13 colonies that later became the United States. As you can see, Boston is rich in American history. Popular attractions include American Revolution-themed sites such as the Boston Tea Party Ships, Old North Church, and Paul Revere’s House. Sports venues like Fenway Park and TD Garden are also popular.

Boston food scene

There are a few All about Boston. Everything about Italy starts in the North End. Seafood is also plentiful, especially downtown near the pier and Boston Harbor, where lobster rolls and clam chowder are staples. There are also several Michelin-starred restaurants in Boston, Cambridge, and surrounding cities.
