SEATTLE (AP) — Osaze de Rosario scored in the 89th minute, Jesus Ferreira and Albert Rusnak each added goals, and the Seattle Sounders defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2 on Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to nine games.
Noujo Toro sent a first-touch entry pass from the left side just outside the area to De Rosario, who headed in from the top of the six-yard box, and De Rosario dived into the net for the goal.
The Sounders (7-1-3) are third in the Western Conference with 24 points. San Jose (9 wins, 9 losses, 2 draws) and Vancouver are tied for first with 29 points, the most in MLS.
The Earthquakes’ eight-game unbeaten streak ended with their first loss since the season started. 1-0 San Jose is coming off back-to-back 1-1 ties against Toronto and Vancouver, but is now without a win in three consecutive games for the first time this season.
Nick Fernandez scored his first MLS career goal for San Jose in the second minute, and Preston Judd added another in the 69th minute.
This is the second time this season that Seattle has conceded multiple goals in one game.
The Sounders have won three straight against San Jose and are now undefeated in five.
Seattle has a 22-game unbeaten streak at home (17-0-5) in all competitions, the longest streak in club history.
Rushnak scored from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute, and Ferreira gave the Sounders a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute.
