ST. LOUIS (AP) — Thomas Totland scored four minutes into the game and fellow defender Rafael Santos added a second-half goal as St. Louis City defeated Los Angeles FC for the first time 2-1 on Wednesday night.
Totland found the back of the net for the first time this season and for the third time in 55 career appearances, with assists from Eduard Löwen and Marcel Hertel. It was Löwen’s first assist of the season and Hertel’s second.
Santos added an unassisted goal in the 64th minute. It was his first goal of the season and his fourth in 92 career games. Santos entered the game from the 10th minute in place of the injured Jaziel Orozco.
David Martinez entered the match in the 70th minute and scored in the 73rd minute to make it 2-1. Nkosi Tafari and defender Aaron Long set up Martinez’s fourth goal of the season and 11th in 58 games.
Roman Bürki made three saves for St. Louis City (3-6-3), which enters the game with an overall record of 0-5-2 against LAFC.
Hugo Lloris didn’t make a save for LAFC (6-4-3). He has started 11 games and leads the league with eight clean sheets.
Mathieu Choiniere scored his only two goals of the season (both from long range) to lead LAFC to a 2-0 victory over St. Louis City on March 14.
St. Louis City scored just 10 goals in their first 11 games under coach Yoann Dummett, second-fewest in the league.
