MADRID (AP) – The Spanish Football Federation on Wednesday suspended Andorra owner Gerard Pique for six games following complaints about officiating in a second-division game.
The federation also banned the former Spain international and Barcelona star from being the club’s owner for two months over an incident that occurred during the team’s 1-0 home defeat to Albacete on May 1.
The club was fined 1,500 euros ($1,762) and the stadium was partially closed for two games.
“In any other country we would be torn apart, but here in Andorra we are a civilized country,” Pique told match officials, the federation said.
Picket and investment group Acquired FC Andorra In 2018, the club from Andorra, a small country located in the Pyrenees between Spain and France, was in the fifth division. The club was founded in 1942 and previously played mainly in the lower leagues.
Andorra currently sits in 10th place in the second division table.
