CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Matias Laborda scored in the 82nd minute as the Vancouver Whitecaps tied 1-1 with the LA Galaxy on Saturday night.
The Whitecaps (8-1-1) were the second MLS team in the post-shootout era (since 2000) to win eight of the first nine games of the season, but the club’s regular-season winning streak ended at four.
Sebastian Berhalter took a free-kick from the left to the back post and La Borda headed home the goal from close range.
The Whitecaps had 58% possession and outscored LA 19-7 and 5-2 on target.
Joseph Paintsil scored the first goal in the 46th minute. Early in the second half, Lucas Sanabria took a misplayed ball from Whitecaps goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka and provided a goal to Paintsil from the right side of the area.
JT Marcinkowski made four saves for the Galaxy (3-4-4).
Takaoka finished with one save.
