On Sunday, Sophia Wilson scored her first goal of the season in stoppage time and the Portland Thorns defeated Angel City 2-1.

In the only other National Women’s Soccer League game of the day, the visiting Utah Royals defeated the Seattle Reign 3-0.

Los Angeles ended the first half scoreless, and the Thorns (4-1-1) took the lead on Pietra Trudin’s header in the 76th minute. In her professional soccer debut, rookie defender Carolyn Calzada provided an assist.

Wilson cut the lead to two points in added time with a left-footed shot into the side netting. It was her first goal of the season after taking all of last year off to give birth to her daughter. Her last goal with the Thorns was on November 1, 2024.

Forward Prisca Chilufya, who came on as a substitute in the second half, cut Angel City’s lead to 1-2 just before stoppage time.

Japan representative Jun Endo returned from injury as a substitute in the 62nd minute of the match against Angel City (3-2-0).

Utah’s road win is largest in team history

The Royals scored three goals in the first half, spoiling Laine’s return to Lumen Field.

Early on, Utah State (3-2-1) jumped on a bad back pass from Seattle (3-2-1) and Mina Tanaka cut it to Paige Cronin for a 1-0 lead.

In the 7th minute, Miura Narumi made a shot from outside the box to make it 2-0.

In first-half stoppage time, Ana Tejada played a pinpoint through ball to Chloe Lacasse to bring home the final score of 3-0, making it the club’s biggest road win in history.

In the 68th minute, Jess Fishlock had to be stretchered off the pitch with his left leg protected in an air cast. She was hit in the leg by a teammate’s shot and collapsed in pain. The Reigns veteran announced his retirement at the end of the season earlier this week.
