LEEDS, England (AP) – Leeds midfielder Ilya Guluev will miss the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea and the rest of the season due to a torn meniscus, manager Daniel Farke announced Thursday.
The Bulgarian international missed Leeds’ 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Wednesday after sustaining a knee injury in training.
“We have confirmed that he has a meniscus tear. He will definitely be out for the season, so he won’t be able to help us in the practice games. He won’t be in the FA Cup or in the league,” Farke told a press conference. “Of course it’s not ideal for us, but we all feel for him.”
Guluev, who has played in 26 games this season, is expected to return at the start of the preseason.
Fellow midfielder Anton Stach could be available for Sunday’s semi-final at Wembley Stadium. The German international has missed the last three matches due to an ankle injury.
“(He) has not yet taken part in team training, but obviously there are a few more days. If a key player like him comes back to team training, he will have a chance to be selected too, because he is an important player for us,” said Farke. “Let’s take a look within 72 hours.”
Franke expected defenders Jayden Bogle (foot) and Sebastian Bornau (ankle) to return Sunday.
On Saturday, Manchester City face Southampton in the other FA Cup semi-final.
