MADRID (AP) – Tennis players Carlos Alcaraz and Arina Sabalenka were named athletes and sportswomen of the year, while Paris Saint-Germain was named team of the year at the Laureus Awards on Monday.
Alcaraz won last year’s French Open and US Open, as well as the Australian Open in January. Sabalenka, who is top of the women’s rankings, won her second consecutive title at last year’s US Open.
PSG won their first Champions League in 2025.
Rory McIlroy won the Comeback of the Year award after successfully defending his Masters title this month.
Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal, 18, won the Young Sportsman of the Year award.
F1 champion Lando Norris has won the World Breakthrough of the Year award.
German soccer great Toni Kroos received the World Sports Inspiration Award, while former gymnast Nadia Comaneci received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The World Action Sports Athlete of the Year award went to American snowboarder Chloe Kim.
Brazilian Gabriel Araujo has been named world disabled athlete of the year.
The awards ceremony in the Spanish capital was hosted by tennis great Novak Djokovic and freestyle skier Irene Gu.
