LONDON (AP) – Tottenham on Sunday condemned what the club described as “vile and dehumanizing racism” directed at defender Kevin Danso. 2-2 draw with Brighton in the premier league.
The Austrian centre-back was responsible for Georginio Rutter’s equalizing goal in stoppage time against Brighton, which sent Tottenham into the relegation zone on Saturday.
Tottenham have announced that they have reported racist abuse towards Danso on social media to police.
Tottenham said in a statement: “Kevin Danso has been and continues to be the subject of serious and abhorrent racist abuse on social media since yesterday’s game against Brighton during the Premier League’s anti-racism weekend.”
“We have seen and heard vile and dehumanizing racism. It is undoubtedly a criminal act. It will not be tolerated.”
Tottenham said: “We will press ahead with the strongest possible measures against all those identified.”
“Kevin has our full and unconditional support as a player and as a person,” the club said in a statement. “No one at this club is going to face this situation in isolation.”
The Premier League issued a statement on X in support of Danso, warning that “individuals identified and found guilty of discrimination will face the strongest possible consequences, including suspension from the club and legal prosecution.”
