REGgio Emilia, Italy (AP) – Markus Thuram scored his fourth goal in three games as Inter Milan extended their lead in Serie A to 12 points with a 3-0 win over Cagliari on Friday.
Inter were on the back foot in the first half, unable to convert their pressure into goals, but Cristian Chivu’s side took control in the four minutes just after half-time.
Federico Dimarco’s superb pass found Thuram who found the far post, and four minutes later Nicolo Barella made it 2-0 with an unstoppable shot from 15 meters out.
Piotr Zielinski saved the best chance for the last time with a superb volley into the top corner.
As a result, the champions were 12 points behind Napoli with six games remaining.
Cagliari are now in 16th place, six points above the relegation zone.
Como lost again
Earlier, Como lost 2-1 to Sassuolo, their second defeat in a week.
Sassuolo took the lead in the final minute with goals from Christian Volpato and Mbala Nzola three minutes before half-time.
Argentina international Nico Paz scored his third goal in four games in stoppage time in the first half, but despite Como taking the initiative in the second half, they were unable to equalize.
Como suffered their first away defeat of 2026 after losing 4-3 at home to Inter on Monday. Como remain in fifth place, but Juventus, who are two points behind, could increase their lead to five points if they beat Bologna on Sunday.
Cesc Fabregas’ team went unbeaten in nine games until their match against Roma on December 15th.
Sassuolo finished in 9th place.
