VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Emmanuel Sabbi had a goal and an assist, 21-year-old Bruno Caicedo scored his first MLS goal, and the Vancouver Whitecaps continued their best start to the season in club history with a 3-0 win over Sporting Kansas City on Friday night.
Vancouver (7-1-0) has won three straight and leads MLS with 21 points. The Whitecaps have led MLS in goals scored with 22 this season, and their goal differential of plus-18 is the best in the league.
Thomas Muller also scored for the Whitecaps. Yohei Takaoka made one save, earning his fifth shutout of the season.
Sabbi ran onto a loose ball just outside the six-yard box and his first touch shot hit the underside of the crossbar to take the lead in the 13th minute.
Sporting KC (1-6-1), which made four consecutive threes, now has four points and a minus-13 goal difference, both of which are at the bottom of the Western Conference.
Caicedo, making his first start (and only his third appearance) in his career, curled a low shot from the left of the area in the 23rd minute, but it deflected off the far post, and in the 28th minute, Sabbi’s cross into the area was headed in by Müller.
John Palskamp made three saves for Kansas City.
Vancouver defeated Sporting 25-3.
