ROME (AP) — Silvio Baldini, coach of Italy’s U-21 national team, will take charge of the senior national team in an international friendly next month.
Baldini’s appointment as interim manager was announced on Friday, 10 days after the game against Italy. Missed out on the World Cup again.
Italy lost in penalty shootout The match against Bosnia and Herzegovina meant the four-time champions missed out on the World Cup for the third year in a row and led to the resignation of the Italian Football Federation president. Gabriele Gravina and coach Gennaro Gattuso.
Baldini, 67, will play in the match against Luxembourg on June 3 and Greece four days later. Both are away matches.
A new permanent director is likely to be chosen after Gravina’s successor is appointed, with elections to be held on June 22.
Napoli coach Antonio ConteHe already led Italy at the European Championship 10 years ago, but is believed to be a favorite to return.
Other names mentioned include Roberto Mancini, Simone Inzaghi and Massimiliano Allegri.
