MILAN (AP) — Fiorentina goalkeeper David de Gea made a number of big saves on Saturday to preserve a 1-0 win against Hellas Verona and move further away from the Serie A relegation zone.
The former Manchester United shot-stopper kept his team in the game, but teammate Nicolo Fagioli scored the winning goal in the final minute, eight minutes into the game.
Jack Harrison, on loan from Leeds United, fired in from the right and the free Fagioli fired a shot inside the right post.
Tensions flared four minutes later when Verona midfielder Tomas Suslov and his Fiorentina counterpart Alberto Guzmundsson got into a scuffle, with both players sent off for having their jerseys torn.
Fiorentina spent most of the first half of the season at the bottom of the table, but have only lost two league games in 2026. They are now 5 points above the drop zone.
Verona remained safe with nine more points.
noble goal
Sassuolo fought back and won 2-1 thanks to a sublime strike from Andrea Pinamonti as Cagliari squandered a precious lead.
Cagliari, who were just three points behind the relegation zone, took the lead in the first half with Sebastiano Esposito’s penalty.
However, Sassuolo leveled the score five minutes into the second half. The corner kick was only cleared with a header by Ulises Garcia from outside the area. The defender controlled the ball with his chest and slotted it into the bottom right corner, scoring his first goal in Italy after joining from Marseille in February.
The turnaround was completed in the 78th inning. Pinamonti collected the ball with his back to goal, turned his defenders around and slotted the ball through a narrow gap into the bottom left corner.
In other matches, Lazio were drawn 1-1 by Parma, leaving them seven points clear of the drop zone.
