LONDON (AP) – Chelsea’s latest financial results released Wednesday showed a pre-tax loss of 262.4 million pounds (about $350 million), the highest on record in the Premier League era.
Birthplace of Chelsea’s owner US private equityattributes some of the loss to “increased operating costs” in 2024-2025 compared to the previous year.
The British Press Association reports that the highest pre-tax loss in the Premier League was Manchester City’s £197.5 million (currently $263 million) in the 2010-11 season.
Chelsea said its revenue for the year to June 30, 2025 was 490.9 million pounds ($650 million), the second-highest ever for a London club. This includes some of the funds earned from winning the Club World Cup title.
Chelsea were deemed to be compliant with Premier League financial rules that allow them to lose up to £105 million (about $140 million) in the block over a three-year period from 2024-25. For example, spending on infrastructure, youth development and women’s football is not included when the league assesses a club’s losses.
