CAGIARI, Italy (AP) — Napoli moved into second place in Serie A with a 1-0 win over Cagliari on Friday.
Scott McTominay’s goal just 90 seconds later sealed a game that was dominated by the visitors.
The Scotland player pushed in the loose ball that fell at his feet from a cross from the right, and his team, which did not take a shot on target throughout the match, never took the lead.
It was the fourth consecutive win for Antonio Conte’s team.
The win puts Napoli two points ahead of third-placed AC Milan, who will play Torino on Saturday. League leaders Inter Milan will face Fiorentina on Sunday.
Cagliari’s winless streak in the league has now been extended to seven matches until the end of January. Although they remained in 15th place, there is a good chance that they will be involved in a relegation battle with eight rounds remaining. They were six points above the drop zone, and the five teams below them all had games in hand.
In other good news for Conte, Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne played 90 minutes for the first time since injuring his hamstring last October.
