Bruno Fernandes became a hero for Manchester United. The midfielder caught the eye at Old Trafford as the Red Devils defeated Aston Villa 3-1 at home on Matchday 30 of the Premier League.

The 31-year-old star contributed to his team’s victory with two assists, equaling the historic record set by club icon Cristiano Ronaldo.

In the 53rd minute, Bruno took a perfect corner kick, which Casemiro headed home and into the opponent’s goal for the first goal of the match.

Ross Barkley quickly equalized in the 64th minute, but eight minutes later Fernandes played a fine pass to Matheus Cunha, who found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Emiliano “Dib” Marnes, who scored in the 72nd minute to put Manchester United up 2-1. In the 82nd minute, substitute Benjamin Sesco scored the 3-1 victory.

With these two assists, the midfielder now has 16 assists in the 2025-26 Premier League season, making him the club’s all-time leader for assists in a single league season, according to the Record. Bruno also surpassed David Beckham’s historic record of 15 assists in the 1999-00 season, one of the club’s most successful seasons.

And as if that wasn’t enough, this season Fernandes contributed 26 points (7 goals + 16 assists) for the club through goals and assists, matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s record when he first joined the club, The Sun reported.

The 41-year-old Portuguese star also scored 26 goals (18 goals and 6 assists) for Man United, before moving to Real Madrid in the 2008-09 season, where he also won the Ballon d’Or, proving the level of difficulty and success with which “Bicho” played. Now, with eight games remaining, Fernandes has already scored as many goals as Ronaldo in that historic season.

Bruno, who ranks third in the league with 54 points, could continue to lead the league in assists and help the Red Devils advance towards the top of the league.
