BRISTOL, England (AP) — Chelsea defeated Manchester United 2-0 in Sunday’s final to claim back-to-back Women’s League Cup titles.
Sonia Bompastre’s side successfully defended their trophy with goals from Lauren James and Aggie Beaver-Jones in the first half at Ashton Gate.
Chelsea have been the dominant force in England for the past decade, winning 18 major trophies during this period.
This is the fourth time they have won the League Cup.
“If you have a chance to win a trophy, you have to go for it. When you’re a winner, that’s what you do. My players deserved it,” Bompastre said.
James put Chelsea ahead in the 19th minute, and Beaver-Jones doubled their lead in the 76th minute.
Chelsea, who have won the Women’s Super League six times in a row, are currently third in the table, 10 points behind leaders Manchester City with one game in hand.
“This is the best way to start the month because it’s a very important month with a lot of games,” Bompastre said.
