MADRID (AP) – Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy may miss the team’s next league game, and possibly more, after being substituted at halftime against Manchester City with an apparent injury, coach Alvaro Arbeloa said Wednesday.
French player sent off midway through Madrid won 3-0 In a draw in the last 16 of the Champions League.
“We don’t know what it is yet, but it doesn’t look good,” Arbeloa said.
Mendy has been sidelined for much of the season since picking up a muscle injury in November, but returned for the full 90 minutes in last Friday’s league win over Celta Vigo.
However, Arbeloa admitted it may have been too early to bring 30-year-old Mendy back.
“It was a risk to give him two games after being out for so long, so I appreciate his effort,” Arbeloa told broadcaster Movistar. “It wasn’t ideal. I took that risk with him and I appreciate his performance.”
