CINCINNATI (AP) — Luca Gavran’s shutout and Daniel Saloy’s goal late in the second half helped Toronto FC beat FC Cincinnati 1-0 on Sunday night.
Saloy scored the only goal in the 86th minute off an assist from Richie Larrier, and Gavran made two saves in Toronto’s shutout victory (1-2-0).
It was Saloy’s first goal with Toronto after spending the previous nine seasons with Sporting Kansas City. This was his 54th goal in 245 appearances. Laryea’s first assist of the season gave him 15 points in 160 career games.
Gavran earned his first shutout of the season and third in his 19-year career, which started in Toronto.
Roman Celentano blocked six shots on goal for Cincinnati (1-2-0).
Toronto entered the game with an 0-4-1 record in Cincinnati and had never scored a goal at TQL Stadium.
Cincinnati coach Pat Noonan went 7-0-1 through his first eight games before suffering his first loss to Toronto.
Cincinnati leads the series with a 9-5-1 record and has nine wins, the most against any opponent.
