WOLVERHAMPTON, England (AP) – Andy Robertson scored his second goal of the season and set up Mohamed Salah’s follow-up goal as Liverpool advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 win over Wolverhampton on Friday.
Scotland captain Robertson put Liverpool ahead with a low shot from outside the penalty area 10 minutes into the second half, and two minutes later Salah curled an inviting cross into the net.
Curtis Jones added a third goal 16 minutes before the end of the match, and Hwang Hee-chan scored in stoppage time in the second half to give Wolves a comfortable victory.
Defender Robertson’s only goal this season came in September when Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. His leading role in Friday’s victory was a welcome one after Wolves defeated Arne Slott’s side 2-1 in the Premier League three days earlier.
“[It was]a little more like that,” Robertson told the BBC. “We know we let ourselves down on Tuesday… it was up to us to make it right. The FA Cup is do or die.”
The quarterfinals will be held on the first weekend of April. The remaining seven contestants will be determined in matches that will take place over the next few days.
“We’re trying to fight on all fronts,” Robertson said. “We’re still in two cup games. If we play like we did tonight, no one will want to play us. We’ve got to start showing that consistency. It’s one step forward, two steps back.”
