MUNICH, Germany (AP) — Luis Diaz scored one goal and another as Bayern Munich defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-1 on Friday, extending its lead at the top of the Bundesliga to 14 points over second-place Borussia Dortmund.
With Harry Kane injured, Nicholas Jackson started in the centre-forward position for Bayern and was one of seven changes to the team that beat Dortmund in Der Klassiker last weekend.
However, it was Colombian Diaz who started to get violent.
He took the lead in the 33rd minute with a flashy volley and turned provider 12 minutes later, his deft pass allowing Conrad Reimer to make it 2-0.
Ten minutes into the second half, Bayern’s task became even easier when Rocco Reitz was sent off for a rugby tackle on Jackson.
Jamal Musiala converted a penalty kick for his first goal of the season, and Jackson celebrated his return to the team by adding his fourth goal with 11 minutes remaining.
17-year-old Wael Mohiya scored the winning goal in the closing minutes for Gladbach, becoming the club’s youngest ever scorer.
The only embarrassment for reigning champions Bayern was Manuel Neuer’s sending off at half-time. The German goalkeeper returned after missing two games due to injury. The extent of his complaint was not immediately known.
Gladbach remain in 12th place with 25 points, three points out of the relegation zone.
