Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have reportedly dropped a vital three points that could prove decisive in the race for the Premier League title. Keeping an eye on Arsenal’s developments, the team drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest, but the manager refused to throw in the towel.
Manchester City are no longer in control of their own destiny
After taking the lead twice at home, City were reversed in the 76th minute, missing out on two points. This means Manchester City are no longer relying solely on themselves if they want to win the English title.
Arsenal narrowly won against Brighton & Hove Albion and are now seven points clear (at the end of the game). Even if City were to defeat the Gunners in their head-to-head encounter in April and win the game at stake, Arsenal would still be top of the table.
With nine games remaining, the Gunners will maintain their lead, even with a win over Arsenal and a great game. Under this scenario, Pep Guardiola can only hope for a perfect winning streak while praying that Arsenal’s points drop. Otherwise, the Premier League trophy will return to Highbury for the first time in 22 years.
“I’m disappointed with the result. I think we gave everything to win. We had chances at the end of the game and throughout the game, but we have to keep moving forward. There are still many games left,” Guardiola told TNT Sports.
The Premier League may be close to a decision, but we don’t know what will happen and it could be a hell of an end to the English title race.
