a Months before the World Cup, Mauricio Pochettino could rejoin Tottenham Hotspur’s bench, but the Argentine manager made it clear that he is focused on the US men’s national team rather than an eventual return to north London.

The tactician, who is currently in charge of the US team after taking over in September 2024, downplayed reports that he could be a permanent replacement following the departures of Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor for interim terms.

Manager Pochettino made the following statement to Radiogaseta de los Deportes:

There are always rumors and there are always links with other clubs. At Tottenham, just like I was linked with Espanyol and other clubs at the time.

The weight of the past in London

Pochettino left a deep mark on Tottenham. Under his leadership, the club reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2019 and finished runners-up in the Premier League the season before, cementing one of the most competitive cycles in the club’s recent history.

Despite leaving in the midst of a slump in 2019, his form is still highly praised by Spurs fans. Even after playing for Chelsea FC in the 2023-24 season, the affection from some fans did not wane.

Since leaving Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he has also managed Paris Saint-Germain, gaining international experience before taking on the United States national team.

Contract until after the World Cup

The Argentine coach recalled that his contract with the US national team ends after the World Cup, leaving the door open for a future return to club soccer.

We are focused on the World Cup, which will be held in America. My contract ends after the World Cup, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens after that.

Additionally, he acknowledged that rumors tend to be activated when a team is going through difficult times.

When things aren’t going well, people tend to get emotional and say, “Well, we played good football with Mauricio.”

No official contact information

According to reports in the British media, there has so far been no official or unofficial contact between Pochettino and Tottenham about a possible return in the summer.

The coach remains based in England, which could affect his future, but for now his priority is leading the United States to the World Cup on home soil, one of the biggest challenges of his career.

Important facts:

Pochettino has been the coach of the United States national team since September 2024. His contract expires after the World Cup. Tottenham are in a transition period following the departure of Thomas Frank. There was no official contact between the club and the Argentine manager. The manager has already managed PSG and Chelsea since leaving Tottenham in 2019.

The coach’s future is still open, but the message is clear. Before returning to the Premier League, his priority is the World Cup against the United States.
