Ronaldo, 41, moved to Saudi Arabia at the end of 2022 to play for Al Nasr.
“It has long been my ambition to contribute to football beyond the pitch. UD Almeria is a Spanish club with strong fundamentals and clear growth potential,” Ronaldo said in a statement.
Brunswick Group said the five-time Ballon d’Or winner bought the Almeria stake through his subsidiary CR7 Sports Investments.
Almeria has been under the control of Saudi owners for more than six years. Mohamed Al Khereij purchased the club from Turki Al Al-Sheikh in the summer of 2025 and became the new owner and chairman.
“We are very happy that Cristiano has chosen our club as an investment destination,” Al Hereij said in a statement. “He knows the Spanish league well and understands the potential of what we are building here, both in terms of the team and the academy.”
Financial details were not disclosed.
Almeria did not immediately respond to an email request from The Associated Press seeking details of the deal.
Almeria are currently in third place in Spain’s second division. Most recently, he belonged to the First Division in the 2023-24 season.
