BERLIN (AP) — Matthias Ginter and Igor Matanovic scored in the Bundesliga on Sunday as Freiburg beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 to move into seventh place.
Ginter scored in the 38th minute, throwing himself onto the ball and acrobaticly slotting it in after a long throw-in, despite the attentions of Gladbach defender Joe Scully. Ginter, who previously spent five seasons at Gladbach, had a celebration ahead of him.
Matanovic made no such reservations in the 74th minute, after Moritz Nikola saved Maximilian Eggestein’s cross and easily tapped in to score Freiburg’s second goal.
Gladbach pulled one back through Haris Tabakovic late just a minute after another goal was ruled out for offside.
Freiburg extended their home winning streak to five games in all competitions, while Gladbach’s winless streak extended to seven games.
Stuttgart will be hoping to cement their fourth spot in the Champions League with a win over bottom-placed Heidenheim later on Sunday, while Werder Bremen visit St. Pauli in a relegation battle.
