CALIARI, Italy (AP) – Lecce defeated Cagliari 2-0 on Monday to pick up three crucial points to avoid relegation from Serie A.
The Southern club remained in 17th place, but the win moved them three points out of the relegation zone. They are level on points with the top two clubs, Cremonese and Genoa.
After a goalless first half, the visitors looked more present in the decisive second period.
Lecce took the lead in the 65th minute with a header from Omri Ganderman, and 11 minutes later Irvel Ramadani cut the lead to two with a powerful shot into the bottom corner.
It was Lecce’s second straight win after an eight-game winless streak, and the second time in 12 games that they have scored two goals in one game.
It was Cagliari’s second consecutive loss, leaving them in 13th place, one point behind Parma and one point behind Torino.
