Manager Thomas Frank was sacked by Tottenham on Wednesday after just eight months in charge, with the team just five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
Despite taking Spurs to the round of 16 in the Champions League, Frank has overseen a hopeless domestic campaign. Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle means Spurs will not win the league again in 2026.
Tottenham said in a statement: “The club has taken the decision to make changes to the position of men’s head coach, with Thomas Frank retiring today.” “Thomas was appointed in June 2025 and we are determined to give him the time and support he needs to build our future together.
“However, the results and performance have led the board to conclude that changes are necessary at this point in the season.”
Frank’s departure means Spurs are looking for their sixth head coach in less than seven years since Mauricio Pochettino departed in 2019.
The Dane was appointed at the end of last season when manager Ange Postecoglou was sacked despite leading Tottenham to the league title. First trophy in 17 years Win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League.
During his nine-year spell at Brentford, Frank built an impressive reputation for his work, building the modest London club into a Premier League team. However, he was unable to repeat that success at Tottenham, winning just seven of 26 league games.
Spurs’ last league win was on December 28, when they lost at home to Newcastle, extending their disastrous run in England’s top flight to just one win from 11 games.
Spurs dropped to 16th in the table on Tuesday, just five points behind relegation zone West Ham.
