BERLIN (AP) — Union Berlin bounced back from a poor Bundesliga game to a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday with two late goals and a red card.
After a rough 83 minutes, Nathaniel Brown put Frankfurt ahead with a sharp shot from 15 meters. Substitute Mahmoud Dahoud mistimed a scissor kick, but the ball fell perfectly for Brown to volley home.
The goal set up the visitors for their first win in nine games, but their hopes were dashed in just a few seconds.
Oskar Hojlund was sent off for his second offense two minutes after his team had taken the lead and Leopold Kjellfeld converted a penalty.
The draw meant both clubs were still aiming for their first win of 2026.
The late implosion was particularly painful for Alberto Riera, who took over as Frankfurt manager this week, but failed to pick up the three points from the start. One bright spot was the team’s defensive performance. Friday’s game was the first in eight games this year that they didn’t concede at least two goals.
Frankfurt finished in seventh place, three points behind ninth-placed Berlin.
