MADRID (AP) – Jude Bellingham appeared to strain his left hamstring and was substituted 10 minutes into Real Madrid’s home match against Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish league on Sunday.
Bellingham appeared injured, but immediately requested a substitution. He immediately grabbed the sole of his foot with his left hand and fell to the ground. He received medical assistance and appeared emotional as he left the field on his own.
Brahim Díaz was substituted for the England international and five minutes later he provided the assist for Vinicius Junior’s goal, giving Madrid a 1-0 win at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
A win would move Madrid within one point of league leaders Barcelona, who won 3-1 at Elche on Saturday.
Bellingham, 22, has scored one goal in his last seven games against Madrid. He has scored six goals for the club this season.
