PISA, Italy (AP) — Pisa fired coach Alberto Gilardino on Sunday after winning just one of 23 games in Serie A.
Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Sassuolo was Gilardino’s last game, with Pisa moving four points clear of safety, ahead of bottom Hellas Verona on goal difference.
Pisa said this was a “difficult decision both personally and professionally” and that it would announce Gilardino’s replacement “in the coming hours”.
Gilardino, 43, was appointed in June as the successor to Filippo Inzaghi, who left Pisa after taking the team back to Serie A for the first time in more than 30 years.
However, Gilardino has only one win, 11 draws and 11 losses in the top league this season.
He is the latest managerial change in Serie A this season, following moves at Juventus, Genoa, Fiorentina and Atalanta.
